Introduction

Meet the xA Ultra — the only adapter you’ll ever need.

Developed entirely in-house, the xA Ultra is a KLINE/DCAN/ENET Wi-Fi adapter that supports all BMW E-, F-, and G-Series models (2003–present) & MINI F-Series.

It features an LED status indicator for flash progress and an exclusive energy-saving mode, so it can stay plugged into the OBD port forever without draining your battery.

Before You Begin

(One-time setup before your first flash)

1. Update the xHP Flashtool App

Make sure you’re using the latest version of the xHP Flashtool App.

2. Plug In the Adapter

When you plug in the xA Ultra for the first time, no LED will light up — that’s normal.
A firmware update is required before first use.

3. Update the Adapter Firmware

The xHP will recognise the xA Ultra adapter automatically and download the latest firmware.

  • Open your device’s Wi-Fi settings and connect to the network named
    xAU_FACTORY_XXXXXX created by the adapter.

  • In the xHP App, either:

    • Tap “CONNECT NEW CAR” to start the guided update, or

    • Tap the “xA Ultra” button (top-left corner) to open the firmware page.

  • Wait until the update finishes.

  • Reconnect to the new Wi-Fi name: xA_Ultra_XXXXXX.

4. LED Indicator Colours After Update

Your adapter is now ready for use with xHP, xDelete, MHD, Bootmod3, etc.

Connecting & App Setup

How to connect to your car

Use xHP on Android / iOS / Apple Silicon Mac (M1+) / Windows 11.
Log in with your existing xHP account; licenses and vehicles sync across all platforms.

These settings make sure your connection stays stable during flashing

Set up your phone or tablet (Before Flashing)

  • Battery ≥ 25% charge.

  • Once flashing starts, do not touch the device.

  • Disable Apple CarPlay/Android Auto in the car while flashing.

If Wi-Fi drops, set your device to ignore other Wi-Fi and ensure no other phone/tablet/laptop connects to the adapter.

Set up your vehicle (Before Flashing)

These are general preparation tips to ensure your flash runs smoothly.
They are not the flashing steps yet — those come below. During the flash, make sure to:

Basic Setup

  • Have your Ignition turned ON, engine OFF, gearbox in P.

  • Keep doors closed during a flash (or have a window open to operate from the outside).

  • Plug the Seatbelt In to keep the ignition awake.

  • Switch OFF lights, HVAC, radio, aftermarket screens, etc.

Battery & Power

  • Have a healthy battery. xHP blocks flashing below 11.9 V.

  • For the first “long flash” on DCAN & KLINE vehicles, use a ~30A / 13.8 V power supply on the engine-bay posts (not directly on the battery).

  • It is NOT possible to flash the TCU while the engine is running.

Remove CAN bus add-ons

If present, remove/disable CAN-bus add-ons like:

  • Throttle pedal tuning boxes

  • Port Injection or Flex Fuel Controllers

  • any performance displays (such as Awron)

  • Sport exhausts with sound control installed in the car

  • Aftermarket Android head-units or CarPlay units

  • RGB angel-eyes or other Aftermarket Headlights

  • Aftermarket HUDs (head-up displays)

  • CAN-blocking Anti-Theft security systems, like the "Ghost Immobiliser"

  • Anything else aftermarket connected to the CAN-Bus (like mileage manipulation devices)

Some may need to be unplugged if you still cannot flash.

Supported Operating Systems

  • Android 7.1 and newer (64-bit recommended; avoid Lenovo tablets & laptops)

  • iOS 10 and newer

  • Windows 11

    • CPU: x86/x64, Intel Core i3 6th-gen or newer (or equivalent)

    • OS: Windows 11 or Windows 10 22H2 (19045)+

    • RAM: 4 GB

  • Mac OS Big Sur or newer on Apple Silicon (M1+)

Flashing with xA Ultra

ANDROID IOS & MAC OS (M1+) WINDOWS 11

First-time voucher redemption & unlock requires brief Internet access:

  • Plug in adapter → Ignition ON → complete phone & vehicle preparation.

  • Join adapter Wi-Fi → in xHP tap “CONNECT NEW CAR” (reads car data).

  • Leave adapter Wi-Fi → Go Online → Redeem Voucher & Download Data.

  • Rejoin adapter Wi-Fi → Enable Flight Mode → Flash your Car.

At this point, the xA Ultra adapter doesn't yet support flashing via KLINE vehicles.
(Z4 E86, X5 E53 or X3 E83).

Flash times:
First install ≈ ~2 min for E & F Series, ~8 min for G Series.
Later flashes ≈ ~2 min for E Series, ~30 sec for Flashing F & G series.

xA Ultra Technical Information for Developers

The xA Ultra supports E, F and G-Series protocols (KWP and UDS) and features automatic CAN and ENET detection.

When the adapter detects ENET, it lights up blue; if ENET is not present, it falls back to CAN mode and lights up orange.

In ENET mode, both ENET and CAN are available simultaneously and can be accessed via separate ports.

CAN Mode 🟠 Orange:
IP: 192.168.4.1
Port: 23

An HTTP configuration page is available at http://192.168.4.1:58424/config where the following items can be modified:

  • Change the SSID

  • Set a Wi-Fi password

  • LED behaviour (Standard, Minimal or Off)

  • Power mode (always on, ignition or CAN active, ignition only).

OTA firmware upgrades are only possible through xAutomotive apps. The first time you use it, you must upgrade the factory firmware using one of our apps.
