xProtect - How to use the App

👤 Account Setup
xProtect uses a user account to store your vehicles, licenses, and settings across all devices.
To create or log in to your account, open the app's sidebar menu.
You can either:
Create an xProtect account manually, or
Sign in with Google, Facebook, or Apple
🧭 App Navigation
After logging in, the Overview page shows all vehicles linked to your account.
Use the menu at the bottom to access:
News – Latest updates and announcements
Check Support - includes a VIN scanner, for example
Help – Links to the Tour, FAQ, Manuals
More - Diagnostics, "Send Logs", Settings, and About
To start an install, tap CONNECT NEW CAR or select a car from the list.
🎚Settings
Disable OBD Monitoring - Disable OBD port monitoring so the xA Ultra adapter can remain plugged in even when the car is locked.
After one minute, xA Ultra enters power-saving mode and can stay connected for months without draining the battery. This setting only takes effect when flashing your vehicle.Protect car access - Adds an authentication step before your cars can be opened.
Uses biometrics (Face ID or fingerprint) when available, otherwise your device PIN or passcode.
If your phone doesn’t have a lock set, your cars won’t be protected.Disable Pre-Flash Safety Checks – Do this at your own risk
Language - Lets you set a supported language
Units- Lets you switch between metric and imperial units.
💳 Buying and Redeeming Licenses
Purchase your xProtect license from xautomotive.com.
You'll receive a voucher code by email.
Connect to your car in the app.
On the Cars page, open your vehicle and tap Redeem next to "xProtect License."
Enter your Code.
Codes are linked to your email account and car VIN once redeemed.
They can't be reused or transferred.
Car List Page
When you start xProtect, you are taken to the Car List page. xProtect creates one list entry for each connected vehicle.
Each entry shows the most essential information:
Current protection status
VIN
Vehicle photo (optional, for easier identification)
Tap a vehicle to open its details. From there, you can create a code for the car or check which Codes are currently set (for example, if you forgot it).
xProtect can store an unlimited number of vehicles.
Whether you protect one car or a whole fleet, you only need one user account.
Car Details Page
This page provides an overview of the vehicle data from the last connection, along with the license status.
If no license is active yet, you can redeem your license code here.
At the bottom of the page, tap Protect your car to open the Code Status Page, where you can configure your personal code for this vehicle.
Options menu - Car Details Page
In the top-right corner (three white dots), you can open the Options menu of the Car Details Page:
Re-Download
Re-sync all files and status with the xProtect server.Edit Shift & Paddle Type
Advanced option. Do not change this unless instructed by xProtect Support.History
Shows a list of all operations performed on this vehicle.Edit Photo
Upload or change the vehicle photo.Delete Vehicle (App Only)
Removes the vehicle from your phone list only.
This does not uninstall xProtect from the car.
Do not use this option unless instructed by our Support Team, and the vehicle is in the Uninstalled state.
Code Status Page
In addition to the Car and its VIN, this page shows the most recent successful xProtect installation on your car.
Before the first install, it will show " xProtect OFF “.
Below that, you will find the two sections:
Current Code on Vehicle (top)
Shows the code currently active on the car.Stored Codes (bottom)
Shows all codes saved on your device for this vehicle.
You can create and store multiple codes per vehicle, but only one code can be active on the car at a time.
When you open this page for the first time, it will be empty. No code is active yet, and no codes have been created.
Tap Create Code to open the Code Editor and set up your first code.
After saving a code in the Code Editor, it appears under Stored Codes.
Only after a code is applied to the vehicle will it appear under Current Code on the vehicle.
This page allows you to look up your code at any time, for example, if you forgot it.
Options Menu – Code Status Page (Vehicle-Level Actions)
In the top-right corner (three white dots), you can open the Options menu of the Code Status Page:
Recovery Flash
The recovery flash removes your code from your vehicle. Use this option only if instructed to do so by Support or if you are unable to unlock your vehicle.Approximate time for this operation: 7 minutes
Remove Code
Removes the code from the transmission, so no codes have to be entered, but xProtect stays installed and ready to accept new codes.Full Uninstall
Removes xProtect completely from the car and reinstates the original file.
Security Notice
Because this page contains security-relevant data, it is protected by your device's biometric security by default.
You can turn off this protection in the General Settings, which can be found under " More “ as shown in the Chapter " App Navigation “.
Code Editor Page
The Code Editor is the core of xProtect.
It allows you to create a custom sequence of inputs that protects your vehicle from unauthorised use.
Activation Input
Each code starts with an Activation Input.
The Activation Input tells the car to listen for your personal sequence.
It must be present throughout code entry.
You can choose one of the following inputs as Activation Input:
If you use a static input, activating it once, before starting the sequence, is enough.
Example: Opening the door.If you use a non-static input, it must remain active during the whole sequence.
Example: If you use the brake pedal, you must press and hold it while entering the code.
Please keep this in mind when creating your sequence.
After defining the Activation Input, you can configure the remaining sequence.
You can define up to 8 inputs.
They must be entered in the exact order to unlock the vehicle.
If one input is entered incorrectly, the sequence is cancelled and must be started again.
This protects against brute-force attacks, where inputs are tried randomly.
Input Types
There are two types of inputs.
Static Inputs
Static inputs stay in position after being applied.
They remain active after triggering
They should only be used once in a sequence
Possible Inputs:
You cannot apply the same static input twice in a row.
Non-Static Inputs
Non-static inputs return to their default position after release.
They can be pressed multiple times
They can be used multiple times in a sequence
Possible Inputs:
Setup example
You can apply the handbrake once and release it later as another step.
Applying the handbrake twice in a row is not possible.
Tapping an input opens a bottom menu with all available options.
Inputs can be reordered using drag-and-drop.
When your code is completed, tap Save Code.
The button will then change to Apply code. If an input is used as the Activation Input, it cannot be used again in the sequence and will be greyed out.
Options menu - Code Editor Page
In the top-right corner (three white dots), you can open the Options menu of the Code Editor Page:
Rename Code
Gives you the ability to give your individual code names to make them easier to identify.Settings
Let's you set a time from 2 to 180 minutes for your Activation Delay, after which you have to enter the xProtect codes to unlock again.
Applying a Code
After creating a code in the Code Editor, it must be applied to the vehicle to become active.
Creating or editing code on your device alone is not sufficient.
Open the Car List, select your vehicle, tap Protect this car, and choose the code from the Stored Codes list.
Applying a code transfers data from your device to the vehicle. This requires an xA Ultra Adapter or another supported 3rd-party adapter.
If this is the first time xProtect is used on this vehicle, the app will start the installation process when you tap Apply Code.
Initial installation: approx. 3–5 minutes
Later changes: approx. 30 seconds
Follow all rules and prerequisites in the
”Set up your phone or tablet” and “Set up your vehicle” sections to ensure a safe and reliable connection.
Once the process is complete, xProtect is installed and ready to use.

Uninstalling xProtect & Removing Vehicles
There are two different actions, with very different results:
Delete vehicle
Removes the vehicle from the app list only. Can be done from the Car Details page.
xProtect remains installed on the car.Full Uninstall
Completely removes xProtect from the vehicle and restores the original software.
This must be done from the Code Status Page.
